We celebrated Jarrett's end of rotation with Karting at BIG! In our Grand Prix tournament, John took first, Patrick took second, and Emily coming in strong at 3rd place!

Kira and Kayla went to Boston and presented their work at the 7th RNA-Targeted Drug Discovery & Development Summit. They enjoyed the conference, but were less enthused to have their picture taken.
Annual costume time! Hung out with the Niederer lab watching Ghost Busters. We have Schoder's cat, Velma, Frankie (One Piece), The Rock Meme, Kirby, and .....John.
The lab went to Wiard's Orchards for some fall fun. We got to take a ride on a retro fire truck, sort of got lost in a corn maze, shot some apples, saw an epic showdown on the "Equalizer", got to feed and pet some goats, and had general fun all around!

The whole lab went to the Rustbelt RNA Meeting (RRM) outside of Columbus, OH this week, where Kira gave an awesome talk.
Jae and Emily ran a 5K (Team name "5K training starts now!") to help raise money for the ChadTough foundation.
The whole lab went to the Biochem retreat where we heard some great talks in the department and Kira won a poster prize!

To celebrate the summer and our 3rd year as a lab (and since we couldn't go earlier due to the river being too high), the lab went kayaking on the Huron. It was a beautiful day where we got to see many swans and geese. Afterwards John showed the lab his puppy Dr. Rosie!
As a lab social event we went to Tea Haus and played board games and enjoyed some tea!

Today we had our second annual 3rd floor potluck at Island Drive park. It was a lot of fun catching up with floor mates and we got to meet our soon to be new Master's student John.

The lab made the many-part journey with planes, trains, and automobiles to Scotland for the annual RNA Society meeting. We learned a lot! Kira, Kayla, and Jae all got to give well-received posters too!
On the day before we all departed, we got to go to Edinburgh castle (picture) and the Royal Botanical gardens as a group which was very fun (and tiring)!

The lab went to Lansing Michigan for the 25th annual RNA Rustbelt Meeting. Memorable events included us all wearing out Capybara lab shirts and Kira winning a poster award!

Chase and Brittany represented at the Biological Chemistry retreat, held at Maumee Bay, and Chase made a new friend. Lots of good talks and posters, and including a fun ice breaker event run by Chase (that included hilarous student skits).
The lab celebrated its 2-year anniversary by having some donuts and then going to Plate for sushi. Here's hopefully to a few more years!

Today the lab went to Island Park to have a picnic with the Freddolino and Giessen lab. There was a lot of food, funny banter, and an epic game of Cube! We are hoping to make this a yearly event!

1st Annual March Mammal Madness with the Neiderer lab! Several members of both labs filled out brackets and Rachel Neiderer won having the Wolverine going all the way! (ChatGPT failed miserably, go Team Humans!)
The lab went out for tea and Bao to celebrate Zhiying's rotation! We played Mysterium with Chase being the ghost. The owner of Tea Haus was so happy we were playing board games she posted a picture of us on their Facebook.

Today we welcomed Giselle Flores as a rotation student today! She will be jump starting RNA-Protein proteomics in the lab.
The biochemistry department had their first in person retreat at the Kellogg Biological Station after a few years and we were excited to go as a lab. We all got to hear some great talks, see some fantastic posters, play some volleyball/Kub, and generally enjoy our time there. Brittany saved a frog from an umbrella.

Chase, Brittany, and Kira went to the 27th Annual RNA Society meeting in Boulder, CO. Got to see a lot of neat science, catch up with old friends, and made some new ones!

We are very excited to announce that Kira Holton has decided to join our team. She will be working in collaboration with the Koutmou lab to understands rules and consequences of pseudouridiylation modifications in human RNAs.
Congrats to Rosemary for successfully finishing her masters program! We are very proud of her and all of the work that she put in! Her next endeavors include working as a clinical coordinator here at the university in a rheumatology division and applying to medical schools. We wish her all of the best!
Chase gave a data blitz talk at the 6th annual RNA symposium today. There were some great talks and we look forward to next year's symposium!
Chase and Brittany got to participate in a Zingerman's baking with the Masters Students (including Rose!). We learned how to make homemade strudel which has the fun process of slapping the dough on the counter and then stretching it on the table before filling and folding.
Unfortunately we didn't get any pictures but both savory and sweet strudels were awesome!
To celebrate another round of great rotations, we again went to do an escape room. In a medical themed room of "Save Tony" Sydney, Kira, and Meredith lead the way in helping us successfully picking the correct antivenom.
